The Do's and Don'ts of Search Engine Optimization

Post  jullysan on Wed Jan 12, 2011 12:49 pm

SEO is probably the most important word that exists today in the world of web marketing. Search Engine Optimization means to increase and promote the visibility of a website in the search engines like Google, Yahoo or MSN. The higher the ranking the better because the chances are that the users usually opt for the first available websites. In addition, this is not an easy task at all because there are hundreds of different other websites vying for the top position. So no, use having a very good- looking website with stylish web pages and interesting layouts unless you can bring it before the users who scout the web every day for new products and services. Here are what you should and should not do to excel in SEO.

Use appropriate keywords. Keywords are the most important aspect of SEO. Your website appears in the search engines only if the keywords punched in by the user matches with the words used in the content of the website. This ensures that the website has relevant information about the topics or keywords searched.

Try to bring in links from other websites, which are similar in nature as that would enhance the visibility of your website. The users visiting those websites would also visit yours of they want better information and the links also tell the search engine that the website has wide scope to cater to a number of users with useful information.

Use services like article and directory submission and comment on blog posts of related website. Use the keywords in the URL of the website as well as in the title tags. If you are, using pictures or other images then use proper tags for them so that the website is apt even when images are search.

Use very flowery or ornamental language in the content of your website. Your website is for all and if you use difficult language or technical terms, without adequate explanation then the user will simply stop visiting your website because of lack of understanding.

Use repetitive content. Repetition of the same content repeatedly, in one form or the other is the worst mistake that you can make. This only leaves the user more confused and he refuses to come back. Rather use short paragraphs and bullets to highlight the key points and advantages of your company through the website.

Search Engine Optimization is not as difficult as it might look on the first glance. Just following the basic rules and keeping an eye on the market trends to update your website would help you to generate the traffic that you desire for your website.
